Our Mission Projects

Shirehampton Hub: Wellbeing, Jobs, Training and Enterprise

Since 2021 we have been hosting our local community’s Wellbeing, Jobs, Training and Enterprise Hub in our church building. We employ a Project Coordinator to facilitate events such as a job club, work skills training and support to start your own business, which benefits people in our local community, along with many services to support wellbeing, including a community fridge and games nights. We have had building work done and purchased various IT equipment to make our facilities more accessible, and to support digital inclusion (use of the internet and computers) with help from the Port Communities Resilience Fund. We are also grateful to a number of grant providers who are supporting us with our running costs, and to all our volunteers. In Winter 2022-23 we were also able to run a Warm Welcome Space.

Support for people who are homeless or experiencing crisis

We support Bristol Methodist Centre and Bristol North West Foodbank.

As well as monetary donations, we have regular collections of dry food, tins and toiletries.

All We Can

We also support the work of All We Can (formerly the Methodist Relief and Development Fund) with a number of collections during the year.

Eco Church

We are very concerned about the importance of caring for God’s Earth and are currently undertaking an audit by A Rocha UK looking at 5 key areas of our church life: Worship and teaching; Management of our church buildings; Management of our church land; Community and global engagement; and Lifestyle. There’s more info about what we are doing here.

Dementia Friendly Churches

We want to ensure that we are doing our best to be a church that is welcoming and accessible for people living with dementia, and we want to be supportive to people in our community who are affected by this condition. We have organised events (such as a Dementia Friends Information Session and a Dementia Information Day in Autumn 2018, which featured a performance of a nationally acclaimed play Don’t Leave Me Now), been working on an audit, and been trying to incorporate best practice.
